On the not-so-technical side of Team Hammond Robotics, we have an organization that has been formed to help "boost" the financial needs of the team. 'Bot Boosters is made up of volunteers, parents of students, and alumni of team 71. The organization was originally founded to help in fundraising, while simultaneously working to "boost" publicity within the community. However, the Bot Boosters provide Team Hammond with many other important resources. From fundraising to feeding the team, 'Bot Boosters do it all!
The Bot Boosters, while working with the students, sell products and run demonstrations at various festivals and events in Northwest Indiana. 'Bot Boosters work with the students of Team Hammond to spread the message of
FIRST Robotics
throughout the community. 'Bot Boosters is a not-for-profit organization that has also helped many other teams form similar types of organizations. They are always willing to assist other FIRST Robotics teams throughout the nation to form similar groups that support their teams. If you would like some basic information about how to form your own organization, please contact The Bot BoostersThey are always ready to help others to grow and continue the FIRST Robotics Tradition!

Since their first year of  involvement in 1996, Team 71 has won four National Championships.  The Robotics program was initiated by FIRST, an acronym, "For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology."  and founded by inventor Dean Kamen who is most known for his Segway Human Transporter and IBOT - apowered wheelchair  that climbs stairs.  Dean Kamen created a robotic competition by having technical personnel from universities and companies join together with high school students and teachers to expose these students to the real world of engineering. The competition has grown from its small beginnings in New Hampshire in 1990 into a world wide event, now composed of more than 3000 teams.
Their first National Championship was in 1997 at Epcot Center in Disney World. Their second National Championship was in 2001, 2002 and their most recent National Title is from the 2004 season. The 2001 season was by far their most successful year, having won both the Western Michigan and Midwest regional competitions, and the Championship Competition in Florida. In addition to these, they took first seed in both regionals and also in our division in Florida.
